September 2023 Jelly Roll Race

National Sew A Jelly Roll Day is celebrated every third Saturday of September.  Instead of the regularly planned business meeting on September 9th, members participated in a Jelly Roll race.  It was a lot of fun.  Pizza was delivered and it was a great time of fellowship.  There were three fast finishers in the race!  Pictures of the day captured below:

November 2023 Meeting

Possum Town Quilters met for their regular monthly meeting on Saturday, November 11, 2023. The meeting opened with a welcome from guild president, Gwen Sisson.  There were 15 members in attendance and 1 visitor.  Minutes for the last regular business meeting which was in August were approved as written on the blog on motion by Judy S. with a second by Tonya S.  The treasury report was given by Treasurer, Karen C.  The treasurers report was approved with a motion by Tonya S. and seconded by Judy S.  Marilyn H. provided door prizes for the meeting.

Old Business

Challenge (Rent) Quilt Report -  Karen C. stated that Barb D. needs to be reimbursed for quilting work provided for the challenge quilt, Moda Blockheads.  The guild is awaiting an invoice to make payment. Many thanks to Barb D. for donating her time to quilt it.

Charity Quilt - The 16-patch quilt block charity quilt, which was spearheaded by Kimberly S., has been pieced together and is ready for quilting.  It was agreed that Maple Street Quilters will hand quilt for us.  They will do a great job and it will be a treasured gift for some lucky family.

New Business

Raffle Quilt Committee Report - Tonya S. and Patti M. presented the idea for the next raffle challenge and it's going to be so much fun!  At the August meeting, Tonya S. and Patti M. presented the theme for the next raffle quilt which will be "Words from the South".  The challenge will be to take a common southern saying and turning it into a quilt. Participants selected a saying and will design a block around the saying.  Blocks will measure 10 1/2" (10" finished").  Backgrounds should be neutral, either white, beige on tone, or tone on tone in whites or beige.  You can use any technique you choose to include applique', foundation paper piecing, traditional blocks, symbols, pictures.  Only stipuation...NO WORDS!  We want others to be able to guess the saying protrayed in the quilt. IMPORTANT:  The picture should fit into a 10" square.  Blocks will be due at the Feb 10th guild meeting.

Columbus-Lowndes Public Library (CLPL) Quilting Day Program - Brenda Durett, Librarian at CLPL, has contacted Gwen S. regarding the next quilt day program.  She said the date for the next quilt day has been set for March 12, 2024.  This next year, in addition to traditional bed quilts, she would like to showcase other items made using quilting techniques such as handbags, totes, rugs, potholders, tree skirts, jackets, etc.  Please begin thinking of items you could include in the Quilt Day program.  It's a great opportunity for Possum Town Quilters to show what we do and peak the interest of potential new quilters in the community.

PTQ Christmas Tree at Columbus Lowndes Public Library (CLPL) - Gwen S. invited everyone to help decorate the PTQ Christmas tree at the CLPL.  The 2023 decorating dates are Thurs, Dec 1 through Tues, Dec 6.  Looking for volunteers.

General Announcements

Pigeon Forge Quiltfest "Celebrations" Quilt Contest

Brenda C. stated we had received an invitation to participate in the Pigeon Forge Quiltfest quilt contest for 2024.  The theme will be "Celebrations".  We must have at least 5 participants. By a show of hands, it was agreed that we would like to participate.  Since Pigeon Forge Quiltfest is celebrating its 30th year, we decided to let the 30th anniversary be our common theme for celebrations..."Happy Birthday Quiltfest".  The color of a 30 year anniversary is green and a pearl is the symbol.  At least 20 percent of the quilt must be green and the size will be limited to 20" X 20".  The contest committee will select fabrics to be used as a common focal point on all entries.  Finished projects will be turned in at the PTQ meeting on Sat, Apr 13.

PTQ Christmas Social

Our annual Christmas Social is scheduled for Sat., Dec 2nd at 10:00 am at Flint Hill Church, 80 Old Honnoll Mill Road, Caledonia, MS.  Some may want to meet and drive caravan style to the church.  Bring a covered dish or appetizer for brunch and a handmade gift for the gift exchange.  We will say farewell to the current leadership and introduce the new officers for 2024.  Come enjoy the food and fellowship.

Program

Pat H. was in charge of the program.  She showed several quilts made using printed panels.  She also presented a pictorial using her ipad giving many different ideas on how to use panels with various borders.
