June 8 Meeting Minutes

President Terry called our June meeting to order and welcomed all.  We had four visitors, Vicky J., Charity J., Becky M. and Terri H and 19 members in attendance. At our last Sit and Sew meeting we had Joy B. to join our guild. Welcome Joy! We are always happy to have new faces in our group.  Today we had Vicky, Charity and Terri to join. Welcome ladies, it is great having you join our guild also. We look forward to learning from you and teaching you also.

 Old Business:

We now have our hand-quilted raffle quilt ready to sell tickets.  Packets were given out for all members to help get the word out. The drawing will be October 5 at Fall Gathering (Oct 4-5) in Corinth, MS on 2nd day. Ticket information is - 1 chance for $1 donation; 6 chances for $5 donation and 20 chances for $10 donation. Be sure and buy your tickets for a chance at winning this quilt.

Tonya gave our treasurer report and it was approved by all.

New Business:

Donna gave us all the info for our guild to do a "charm square swap" using 6 inch squares.  Everyone signed up for either one or two packages. The fabric selected was "Civil War" prints, 100% cotton, fabric quality.  Remember your discount when buying. If you are not sure of the fabric, Google it to see on the internet or ask.  The material will also have Civil War on the selvage. We will use light or dark materials.  We voted "do not wash" the material. Please iron before cutting.  We will bring cut 6" squares, put in a zip lock bag and bring to next business meeting, July 13 and turn in.  We will get these back at Aug 10th business meeting to start on your projects.  If any questions, call Donna H.

President Terry T. informed all present that she has accepted a new job in Winona, MS and needed to find a new home for our quilt racks we use to display our quilts.  Diane S. volunteered to keep them at her home. There is a total of four with one being used now at RAC for our raffle quilt.

We have our 2013 Educational Seminar coming up in Starkville on July 15 and 16 with Nancy Mahoney as our teacher. We are so excited to have her coming to teach us. Judy has sent out all the information needed and the registration form by email. There will be two different classes taught with the easier one being taught on Monday, July 15 called "Summer Heat" and on Tuesday, July 16 the "Chocolate Caramel Stars". Check her website to see samples of both quilts.  Cost will be $30.00 per class. Checks are payable to MQA.  Please return registration form, check for either $30 or $60, and a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your confirmation and supply list (s) by June 24. If more information is needed, please contact Judy S.

We are honored to have Watana teach us her "Small Fusible Art Quilt" on our Sit and Sew day, July 27 at 9:30 firm for a fee of $10.00.  She will be furnishing background material, wonder under, pattern and markers.  Be sure to sign up if you are interested in taking this class.  You will need to bring your scraps or use PTQ scraps iron, rotary cutter, and very small scissors. More info will be given closer to starting time.

Patti has reserved the golf course room for a sewing evening for Tuesday, June 25. Please contact her if you plan to go so she will be prepared.

Several mentioned an interest in going to the Birmingham Quilt Guild show on June 21-22. Vendors will be there for your shopping needs. Check website for more info.

The July 13 meal will be prepared by Carla, Bobbi and Lauren.  Thanks to Victoria, Rita and Diane for this month's meal. Very good, ladies.

A "Congratulations" cake was presented to Victoria for graduating from MSU.  Diane made the cake for her and Patti brought ice cream to go with it.  Congrats Victoria, we are all so proud of you. We will miss you and enjoyed our time with you.  Good luck in PA! Keep in touch.
