Saturday, April 8 PTQ Guild Meeting and Trunk Show

April Meeting

Welcome visitors.
No sit and sew after meeting.  Trunk Show and Raffle quilt drawing today.

Old Business:
1. Karen has challenge packets available they are $5 please see her after meeting to claim yours.

2. Treasurer’s Report -read and approved.
3. Minutes - Approved as recorded on the blog.

4. Updates on committees:
·         Publicity – Kathy H. -no updates.
·         Charity – Carla F. - no updates.
·         Challenge – Karen A. - Kits for Challenge quilt available.
·         Historical – Michelle - newspaper clippings of Artisan Day for scrapbook
·         Internet – Gwen - no update
·         Raffle Quilt – Julia -no update

5. We will be having sliced ham and the sides provided by Julia, Lauren, Karen, and Judy.  Thank you ladies for helping prepare the fabulous lunch fellowship time.

6. Artisan Alley - Report  on April 1 - the quilt tying was completed around lunch, all ages from 2 years up enjoyed tying the quilt. Many patrons also purchased tickets for the Opportunity quilt. Newspaper pictures were shared.

7. Announcements from Mountain Quiltfest in Pigeon Forge, TN--Ribbons were awarded to guild members and one guild member won a sewing machine as well.  See Show and Tell for pictures of class projects.

8. Snippet- Specialty rulers/acrylic templates for rotary cutters--no tools shared today.

9. Opportunity Quilt drawing at 3:00 pm today.  All tickets were collected from Guild members and the Visitor's center.

New Business:

1. Naomi – Trunk Show - Cotton Treasures from Senatobia, MS is upstairs in the theatre area to present a show at 11 am.

2. AQS Paducah, KY – Spring Show is coming on 26-29 of April

3. May’s meeting LUNCH--- guild will be providing soup. Volunteers--Gwen will make a crock pot of soup, Linda B volunteered to make cornbread and  Brenda C will bring cookies.
      
4. Karen will do presentation on Repair of Old Quilts during our May meeting.  She said you may bring quilts needing repair and she will try to help.

5. West AL Quilt Guild Invitation flier for Karen McNeil Trunk Show and Lecture. See blog post.

6.  Karen gave detailed explanation of the Challenge quilt blocks, read many choices for themes for the blocks.  The Numbered Kits have the instruction sheet inside along with the fabrics to be used as blocks are created. 

7. Contest at the Columbus Arts Council.  Post Card Open Call.  Art work to be chosen to create a postcard which will  be used by the Arts Council to sell as a souvenir of  Columbus.

After the show some of us did a little shopping.







Then we shared fellowship during our lunch together.

Meeting adjourned.  


The drawing for the Broken Star Log Cabin was held at 3 pm.  
Ann McDonald won the quilt.


The House Block quilt we donated to the Arts Council was won by Desire Krieger.

Lecture filled with suggestions and tips for adding fun visual effects to your quilts.

Presentation is FREE and open to the Public.

Kathy McNeil is an internationally award winning quilt artist,  author, pattern designer, teacher, and judge.  Hand appliqueing thousands of little scraps of fabric together, she creates quilts which appear to be paintings.  Her quilts are frequently featured in museums, magazines, calendars, as well as international shows.  Many of her quilts are in private collections.
