Greetings Ladies,
These are the minutes from May’s meeting. The treasurer’s
report was tabled until the next meeting due to Karen being absent from the
meeting. The minutes were approved as posted to the blog.
OLD BUSINESS:
There are still nursery rhyme blocks out and they are due at
the next meeting (June 8th). There will be no Sit-N-Sew due to the
Memorial Day holiday.
Naomi had an update on procuring Linda Hahn for a sewing
class. She is available on April 25th and May 23rd. The
cost was $650.00 plus the cost of the trip, including room and board. It was
suggested that we contact additional guilds in order to help with the costs.
The class is limited to 35. Her “New York Beauty State of Mind” was one
possibility for the class.
Remember that this is the last year for the fall meeting at
Paducah.
Medallion Quilt – You may pick and choose what you do with
your medallion. This is not a competition. For the next meeting, the suggested
pattern is a square and a half square.
The Ugly Fabrics Challenge is a competition. Don’t forget!
Door Prize: Tonya
NEW BUSINESS:
The guild has been approached about doing a demonstration
and bed turning at Garden Hill Assisted Living. There will be more information to follow.
Next month’s meeting (June) is a bed turning by Kathy H.
There is a quilt show June 8th in Yazoo City. It
is the second year. There are two categories to enter and the deadline to enter
in May 30th at a cost of $10.00.
The June Gathering is May 31st and June 1st.
The deadline for registering is May 13th. Karen, Watanna and Naomi
are scheduled to teach classes.
On June 14th and 15th, there is a
Quilt Gathering in Trussville, Alabama.

DEMO: By Watanna
Stack a Posey – start with a brightly colored piece of
fabric with at least a 12 inch repeat. You must have at least 4 pieces to make
sure they match. Make sure to check both sides of the fabric to see that they match.
Start pinning your fabric at the top and pin at about every four inches. Pin
all the way to the bottom of the fabric. After pinning panels thoroughly, (make
sure selvages are cut off), cut in the pre-determined measurement (example was
four inches). Measure the next cut from the edge of the previous cut. After
cutting panels across, cut your squares out of these strips. Be sure to shake
your fabric out once you have pinned the four panels together. Once everything
is pinned, you will start cutting. It is best practice to cut no more than four
inches. Once you have cut your blocks,
pin them together. (DO NOT PRE-WASH YOUR FABRIC). Fold right square over
the left and begin sewing. Next, chain stitch with a quarter inch seam.
