February 23rd Meeting

One visitor:  Jennifer (Judy's daughter)

Treasurer's Report:  Approved as read

Reading of the January Meeting Minutes was waived by Motion:  Terri H and Keri.

President passed on the new timeline for the Nursery Rhyme Quilt turn-in is April instead of March.  Requested by Watana

OLD BUSINESS

There was some discussion of how many charity quilts we currently have and how many we have in progress.

The Bi-Centennial quilt drawing is the evening of  February 23
Julia is being honored for her work ( 2 pieces) at the Meridian Museum of Art (won an award) on February 23rd. The Library quilts need to be no larger than a full size.  Drop-off is February 23rd-26th and will hang until Pilgrimage. The Nursery Rhyme quilt is now due at the April Business meeting.
The Pigeon Forge Challenge had 15 quilts entered from our guild.  Judy sent them off in the mail. The Rent Quilt is a Sampler quilt organized by Keri
Judy made a motion that the Blockhead quilt be used as the Rent Quilt for 2021.  CC seconded it and the motion was carried.  Terri will pass out the patterns next month at the business meeting. Habitat for Humanity Quilt will be the Heart Quilt.

Demo for how to do quilt binding was done by Barb.

Meals were discussed and a new game plan was worked out:

Ina will step in while Marilyn is away and chair the committee.

NEW BUSINESS

Medallion quilt was discussed and those participating were reminded to bring their medallion to the March business meeting where the first border will be announced. Barb and Terri brought in a sample of what the center medallion could be.  There was quite a bit of discussion on what would make a good center and whether or not a panel would be a good choice.

January Business Meeting

January 12, 2019

Greetings and Happy New Year!

The first meeting of the new year was held on January 12th at 9:30. The meeting was called to order and since our last meeting was the Christmas Party, there were no minutes to approve. (I have pictures to post to the blog of the gathering and the quilts that were part of Show & Tell that day). The treasurer's report was read and approved.

Old Business:

The nursery blocks are due in February to Watana.

Chances are now being sold on the Bicentennial Quilt (rent quilt).  The Pigeon Forge Guild Challenge was due the 4th Saturday but they must be postmarked by February 13th. I believe Judy picked some of those up last week at the Sit & Sew. Remember the maximum size is a 160 perimeter.

For the next Rent/challenge quilt, we will begin in March. The center block will be a medallion. Terri will have fabrics for 6 inch blocks at a cost of $5.00. There will be 42 blocks. She has the background fabric and then you will pick the focus fabric. This will be scrappy.

Name Tags - Please wear your name tags. There will be a table by the door for you to sign in. If you have your name tag, sign in and pay your dues, you will be given a door prize ticket for each. Throughout the meeting, tickets will be drawn and door prizes will be awarded. (Thanks, Patti for being in charge of door prizes). If you have something that you would like to donate for a door prize, please see Patti.

Charity Quilts - The information for the Charity Quilts for the hospital is posted on the blog. Please review if you have any questions. The Christmas Charity Quilt that we have is still available. There was lots of discussion on how we should proceed with that. Should we sell it and donate the proceeds to charity and if we do sell, how much should we charge? (This is just food for thought). No definite decision was made.

New Business:

Our next meeting will be held the 23rd of February. There will be no meeting on the 9th of February due to the MQA Gathering in Louisville.

In April, we will have an ugly fabric challenge. Bring 1/4 yard in a bag. The ugly fabric will be your focus fabric for 4 quilt blocks. There will be prizes, viewer's choice, and a cash prize. Fabric must be cotton and will be due in October. It is a 6 inch block minimum. In May, we will have a stack and wack. In June, Kathy H. will demo bed turning. July will be a Christmas in July fabric swap.  In August, we will learn how to design a block on graph paper. September?? October will be time for the Ugly Fabric Challenge. In November, we will repeat the garage sale.

On the fourth Saturday of the month, we will have individuals teach classes. Naomi began the month of January with beginning quilting. The classes may be $5 to $10. This should be great as we have wonderful talent in the guild.

Next month's meal is soup and salad. I'm sorry I did not get the names of those who volunteered.

Today's demo is Barb mitering a border
