PTQ Meeting
September 15, 2012

President Watana called the meeting to order at 9:30am

The August Meeting Minutes were accepted as posted on the Blog

The Treasurer's Report was accepted as read

Challenge Block Prizes were awarded:

Project Director's Report: No Update

Habitat House -
Next House scheduled for late October completion
Quilt only needs label; Judy to provide

Opportunity Quilt -
  • Fabric has been purchased
  • Material is being cut
  • Double Wedding Ring pattern
  • Civil War fabrics

Freedom from Cancer Quilt -
  • Workshop September 29 at 9:30am
  • Cut your pieces, but do NOT assemble
  • We will do a random draw to make a scrappy quilt
  • Terry has posted the information on the blog (please see below this post)
  • The Guild will provide pizza for lunch

Klaudeen Class -
  • Klaudeen saw our Quilts in Grand Rapids
  • Classes to be held November 2 & 3 (Friday Columbus, Saturday Starkville)
  • Class: Blueberries and Key Lime Pie
  • Linda B will provide a supply list to all attendees
  • Each Guild has 20 slots available
  • If you have signed up and cannot attend, please let Linda know as we have a waiting list

"Name That Tune" Quilt
  • We need to enter it into a Quilt Show
  • Carla will take it to the County Fair Monday
  • Julia will then "hold" the quilt for 6 months (expect to see it displayed over her interior balcony)

Ultimate Quilt Challenge 2013 -
Please see Judy or Terry if you need extra material

Victoria has old Quilt Pieces that we identified
  • Dreden & Fan Blocks
  • Circa 1930's / 1940's

Terry has hand pieced quilt blocks from an auction that she is giving away

Due to the MQA Fall Gathering, the October Meeting is moved forward one week to October 13

Nominating Committee:

  • They will bring a slate to the October Meeting
  • Floor Nominations will be requested in October
  • Voting to occur in November
Judy relayed MQA has books available for sale: "Martha Skelton: Master Quilter of Mississippi"
Books were originally $29, but are now available for $5.35
MQA will be donating books to Mississippi Libraries

The Guild will purchase 1 case (12 Books) to have on-hand for special needs, including one as a gift to our November teacher

Christmas Party tentatively scheduled for Saturday, December 8
Patti to obtain the Elm Lake Golf Clubhouse
Dirty Santa $15

Terry presented the MQA President's Challenge to participate in the Alzheimer Quilt Initiative
  • Quilts are 9" x 12"
  • Fast Finishing Triangles for hanging
  • This is a web auction to raise funds for Alzheimer's Research
  • You can bring finished pieces to the Fall Gathering
  • This will be an on-going submittal
  • Terry will send everyone the information

Birmingham Quilt Show next weekend (Thursday - Saturday), including classes

CC brought a quilt frame dontated to RSVP that they cannot store and are giving to us

No October 6 Workshop due to the Columbus Day Holiday Weekend
