Guild members shared favorite, new, hand made, collectible, and vintage pincushions.  All agreed on the wonders of the magnetic pin catchers.

 

Secret Santa

Participating guild members received the names of their Secret Santas.

Ebba K presented the nominations for 2018 officers. Treasurer: Michelle M.; Secretary: Kim C.; Vice President Karen A.; President: Naomi P. 

Motion from Judy S. the slate be accepted.  Second from Watanna C.  Guild voted and the motion passed.

Congratulations to Michelle, Kim, Karen, and Naomi.   Our guild will proudly support your leadership in 2018.

Columbus Arts Council Raffle Quilt

The red and cream quilt is scheduled for completion by Dec 31.  Finishing work today and in November.  Watanna has been asked to quilt it. 

Discussion about ticket sales for this raffle quilt.  Arts Council usually offers tickets at Gala only.  Would PTQ be interested in helping sell tickets before the gala?

More information needed for decision to be made.

Mississippi Bicentennial Quilt challenge blocks to be turned in today.

Pigeon Forge Stars themed quilt challenge—see Judy S for details on how to participate.  Due first of February.

Program today presented by Judy s.  Curved flying geese. 

Demonstration  Naomi will demonstrate the folded block for those who want to try it.

Christmas

Social is Saturday, December 2, 10:30 am at Flint Hill United Methodist Church in Caledonia.  REMINDER to be working on your hand made gift for the game time.  Today get your Secret Santa assignment from Tonya.  We will enjoy fellowship covered dish pot luck lunch together, so decide which favorite dish you will bring to share.

Columbus Lowndes Public Library Festival of Trees decorating dates are Monday, Nov. 27 through Noon Friday, Dec 1. We have 2 bins of decorations and a tree skirt.  Gwen S has created a fresh tree topper.

Improv class with Julia was greatly enjoyed by all participants.

Other old business:  Marianne A. asked to be reimbursed for fabrics purchased for the wedding ring quilt.  Quilt top is with the Wednesday Maple Street Quilting group for a few repairs.  Michelle M., treasurer, will complete.

Fall Gathering  Karen A and Judy S were presenters at MQA Fall Gathering in Hernando. Quilting in the Grove organized a great meeting. Good food, good fabric shopping, and good friends made for a wonderful time.

NEW BUSINESS

BARN QUILT PROPOSAL

The Columbus Arts Council unanimously accepted the proposal submitted by Judy S for the barn quilt block for the outside of the Rosenzweig Arts Center Building.  Now the Columbus, MS Historical Committee will need to approve. 

November 11 meeting guild will provide chili for lunch.

Marilyn H and Gwen S will bring chili; DeWhyte M will bring crackers, Michelle M will bring chips, Judy S will bring cheese.

Judy S Presented “Curved Flying Geese”

New Quilt from and old favorite--Judy explained how to draft the pattern for curving flying geese, the paper piecing required, and how to join all the pieces to form a quilt.  

She will be writing a class.  We are looking forward to learning more when she is ready to teach it!

PTQ Minutes

November 12, 2016

Meeting brought to order by Lauren Hutchins. Judy moved to waive the reading of the prior month’s minutes and Tonya seconded it…All voted in favor of it.

Treasurer’s report read and Judy reported that the proceeds from the Gathering (once all the receipts and reimbursements were completely done) will be allocated to the education fund.

MQA Gathering News:

Gathering went over wonderfully without any negative feedback and with a lot of positive praise. 

Lauren praised everyone who participated in making this gathering a great success!

We have an orphan soup ladle, a pair of scissors, 2 lights, and some extension cords that were used during the gathering that were not claimed … so if you are missing yours please contact Judy or Lauren.

A Stars quilt that was taught by Barbara and done in blues, purples and greens on front with a floral backing that was on display was not claimed so if you are missing it please contact Judy.

The winner of the first guild raffle quilt called “Hearts and Gizzards”, Gwen Harris, sent a thank you note and donated a quilt frame to our guild.

Library Info…

Christmas tree Decorating:

Guild members set November 29, at 2 pm, to be when we decorate the tree at the Columbus Lowndes Public Library. The theme is Red, Gold, and Green. If you would like to make some quilty ornaments to update and add to the current PTQ collection, please complete them and get them to Lauren before Nov. 29 or bring them with you to the Library on Nov. 29. If you plan to participate in decorating our tree, please contact Lauren to volunteer.  And please remember to stop by library on December 8^th to vote for your favorite tree!  Invite your friends, neighbors, anyone you know to view the Festival of Trees.

Ruby spoke to guild of a Christmas ball decoration (which she showed) that was gifted to her as a possible idea of what you could make for the tree…there are a lot of you tube videos on these kind of things if you would like to get some extra ideas or help.  Some ideas were also posted to the PTQ Facebook page.

Honoring Quilters:

March 8, 2017 at 12 noon a reception at the Columbus Lowndes Public Library will honor quilters.  The guest speaker not finalized.

Christmas Party Info:

Christmas Social will begin at 10:30am on 

Saturday morning, December 3, 2016,

 at Flint Hill United Methodist Church.

If you want to carpool or caravan, meet at Lowe's before 10:00 am so that the group can pull out by 10 sharp! Contact Lauren if you wish to join the group so she will know how many will be meeting to travel together.  Group will be leaving at 10:00 sharp, 

so be on time or be left behind to travel on your own.

Bring your potluck dish, your handmade gift, and secret Santa gift.

You are not required to bring a gift and participate in the "game" part of the frivolities.

 Please join the Christmas Social Event anyway.  PTQ ladies always have a lot of fun!

                *If you have a secret Santa gift but find you will not be able to make it to the party, please, please, please make arrangements to get your gift to Lauren so that your buddy will not be left out!!*

Quilty Info:
Registration for Mountain Quilt Fest at Pigeon Forge opens Monday, Nov 14, at 9am; 

so be ready to get your class!

Row by Row next year will be themed “On the Go”...our own Sara Bennett from Figg Fabrics will be the MS liaison for this year!

Bonnie Hunter has posted her fabric and tool requirements for the 2016 Mystery Quilt along…the first clue will be given Friday after Thanksgiving!

Habitat Info:

There will be two habitat houses ready by end of year…we have one quilt ready. The string quilt we have will need quilting…CC volunteered to quilt it.

Rent quilt:

The “House” quilt that is due in February to RAC in lieu of rent for using the basement space for our meetings is in process on Barb’s quilt frame and getting about ready!

Our next rent quilt will be in the red and creams that Brenda C showed us a few months back and we will need to get that going at beginning of year.

Itinerary for next year:

It was asked if we would have an itinerary/calendar of meeting topics/ events for next year like this years…Tonya will do her best to get one together.  She asks that the seasoned/veteran quilters message her  about what may be going on and the times of the year…so please feel free to email her that information to be included in the schedule of  PTQ meeting topics/events.

Show and Tell:

CC, Terry, Kathy, and Tonya all showed Christmas ornaments that they had made.

Eva showed a disappearing 9-patch with a modern twist to it.

Eva Marie and Judy showed a traditional disappearing nine patch they made for their Aunt.

Eva Marie and Judy showed two quilts that they made for the order of her Aunt for their Aunts daughters…one in Blue and one in Purple from Judy’s stash.

Ida showed MSU quilt form a class taught by Judy at Figg Fabrics using a pattern made by the owner, Sara.

Tonya showed Block of the Months from Amy Gibson and Leah Day

Tonya showed 5 inch dolls that she had been crocheting…Mario, Ninja Turtle, Tinkerbell, and Rosetta.

DeWhyte showed a quilt top she has in progress of hand pieced squares.

Old Business

Guild approved minutes for August meeting and the August treasurer’s report.

Secret Santa information sheets were distributed to participants.

T-Shirt Order:  Eva Marie sent guild e-mail about t-shirt order.  Today was ordering and pre-payment deadline.  

MQA Fall Gathering Friday, October 21 through Saturday, October 22— a Mississippi Quilt Association Members event---not a quilt show for the general public.  MQA Newsletter going out this week with registration forms and information.

·        Sept 24 during the Sit-N-Sew, the guild will assemble goody bags.  Judy will store at her home until Oct 21.

·        SIX ladies will be recognized as MQA Outstanding Mississippi Quilters on Saturday, Oct 22, from 1 – 3 pm. Naomi volunteered to coordinate/make preparations for refreshments for the afternoon.

·        Supper coordinator, Barb, shared the good news of a updated FULL kitchen at the Trotter. 

·        Needed are 2 turkey roaster pans, 2 nice large soup ladles; 2 carafe “Air Pots” for coffee service

·         no creamer pitchers will be needed for salad dressing

·        HOME MADE DESSERTS BUFFET – Bring your most decadent, most beautiful, most scrumptious HOME MADE dessert.  No store bought this time ladies. Trifles, layered desserts, bring on the delicacies!  

Hanging Quilts—Please bring your LABELED quilts.  They may have been made as a result of a guild class, small quilts from Susan Cleveland class, small quilts from Julia’s silo art quilt class, challenge quilts, friendship quilts, medallion quilts, Art quilts of all sizes, fractured quilts—The upstairs of the Trotter has a balcony railing that will need to be filled with quilts. We’d rather have an abundance to choose from than not enough.  If your quilt does not have a hanging sleeve, we will use clothes pins or binder clips to hang it, so bring what you have.  If you are planning to complete a 25 x 25 Celebration of 25 years of MQA, you still have time.

Diane has the PTQ quilt racks.  MQA has some as well.

Commercial Dispatch will be contacted about the MQA Outstanding Quilters being honored.

PARKING:  Friday, pull up to the 5^th street upper level entrance, unload, and then go park in the free parking beside the Trotter and behind the former Gilmer.  Leave the spaces in front for loading and unloading. FRIDAY the “meter maid” will chalk mark tires and write tickets.  Saturday park your vehicle at the soccer complex, the farmers market, or behind the Law Offices next door to Zachary’s.

Opportunities for the Log Cabin Quilt and the Featherweight will be priced as follows:

$2 per single ticket                          $5 for 3 tickets             $10 for 10 tickets

NEW BUSINESS

Time to select a slate of officers to serve in 2017.  The nominating committee-- Julia, Carol, and Diane—will present nominees at the October meeting.

Annette and her team gave us a preview of MQA Friday evening skits.

Julia had Studio Art Quilt Associates Trunk show from around the world on display for all to feast the eyes upon; beautiful pieces of art, each one.
