October 21 Guild Meeting



Possum Town Quilters October 21 Meeting
Reminder to silence cell phones.
Meeting called to order.
Welcomed members, returning members, and visitors.

OLD BUSINESS
September minutes read, corrected, and approved.
Treasurer report approved.
Count taken for lunch pizza order.

SNIPPET of the Month—PINCUSHIONS
Guild members shared favorite, new, hand made, collectible, and vintage pincushions.  All agreed on the wonders of the magnetic pin catchers.



 














Secret Santa
Participating guild members received the names of their Secret Santas.

Election Committee
Ebba K presented the nominations for 2018 officers. Treasurer: Michelle M.; Secretary: Kim C.; Vice President Karen A.; President: Naomi P. 
Motion from Judy S. the slate be accepted.  Second from Watanna C.  Guild voted and the motion passed.
Congratulations to Michelle, Kim, Karen, and Naomi.   Our guild will proudly support your leadership in 2018.

Columbus Arts Council Raffle Quilt
The red and cream quilt is scheduled for completion by Dec 31.  Finishing work today and in November.  Watanna has been asked to quilt it. 
Discussion about ticket sales for this raffle quilt.  Arts Council usually offers tickets at Gala only.  Would PTQ be interested in helping sell tickets before the gala?
More information needed for decision to be made.

Mississippi Bicentennial Quilt challenge blocks to be turned in today.

Pigeon Forge Stars themed quilt challenge—see Judy S for details on how to participate.  Due first of February.

Program today presented by Judy s.  Curved flying geese. 

Demonstration  Naomi will demonstrate the folded block for those who want to try it.

Christmas
Social is Saturday, December 2, 10:30 am at Flint Hill United Methodist Church in Caledonia.  REMINDER to be working on your hand made gift for the game time.  Today get your Secret Santa assignment from Tonya.  We will enjoy fellowship covered dish pot luck lunch together, so decide which favorite dish you will bring to share.
Columbus Lowndes Public Library Festival of Trees decorating dates are Monday, Nov. 27 through Noon Friday, Dec 1. We have 2 bins of decorations and a tree skirt.  Gwen S has created a fresh tree topper.

Improv class with Julia was greatly enjoyed by all participants.
Other old business:  Marianne A. asked to be reimbursed for fabrics purchased for the wedding ring quilt.  Quilt top is with the Wednesday Maple Street Quilting group for a few repairs.  Michelle M., treasurer, will complete.

Fall Gathering  Karen A and Judy S were presenters at MQA Fall Gathering in Hernando. Quilting in the Grove organized a great meeting. Good food, good fabric shopping, and good friends made for a wonderful time.


NEW BUSINESS

BARN QUILT PROPOSAL
The Columbus Arts Council unanimously accepted the proposal submitted by Judy S for the barn quilt block for the outside of the Rosenzweig Arts Center Building.  Now the Columbus, MS Historical Committee will need to approve. 

November 11 meeting guild will provide chili for lunch.
Marilyn H and Gwen S will bring chili; DeWhyte M will bring crackers, Michelle M will bring chips, Judy S will bring cheese.

Judy S Presented “Curved Flying Geese”
New Quilt from and old favorite--Judy explained how to draft the pattern for curving flying geese, the paper piecing required, and how to join all the pieces to form a quilt.  
She will be writing a class.  We are looking forward to learning more when she is ready to teach it!

August 12, 2017 PTQ Meeting

Meeting was called to order, cell phones silenced, members welcomed.  No visitors today.

OLD BUSINESS

Guild Challenge quilt blocks

 Discussion of deadline for block completion.  Guild members voted to extend the deadline and completed blocks will be due October 14 meeting.

Secret Santa

Guild challenge "I See Stars"

We will participate in this Challenge offered by Pigeon Forge.  To keep the guild pieces cohesive,  will use the star block pattern taught at the July classes by Barbara Cline.

Barn Quilts...

Rita's class was a ton of fun and produced fabulous barn quilts which are being hung on quilters homes or displayed inside their homes.

LUNCH
Our August Meal was Fried Chicken provided by PTQ  Delicious pink fruit saladby Judy, corn salad by Pat. Yummy cake by Kathy, and scrumptious brownies from Marilyn.Thank you all for volunteering.

QUILTS IN PROGRESS
Members finished binding the string quilt.
We have a couple of seams to put in the heart quilt before its top will be complete.

August 22 - 26  Old Man River Quilt Fest in Vicksburg. 

NEW BUSINESS 

 September 30, Saturday class--Julia teaches "Improvisational Piecing for Quilters" at Library

 10:30 am - 3:30 pm.  Bring your own brown bag lunch.
Each member registered will pay $25 fee to guild.  Guild will pay Julia. Fee due Sept 9 meeting.

Election Committee

Three Guild Members needed to form the election committee to make nominations for slate of 2018 officers.  Please be willing to serve your guild.

September meal will be tailgating foods.  

Guild members will bring a favorite finger food, appetizer,  or easy to prepare favorite.

Program - 

Gwen demonstrated how to create several quilty and other Christmas ornaments.  Naomi demonstrated a cute Log Cabin Santa ornament.  Some guild members copied patterns to make ornaments later at home and other guild members worked after lunch making ornaments.  See our Facebook page for more pictures.
