October 2022 Meeting

Possum Town Quilters met for their regular monthly meeting on Saturday, October 8, 2022. The meeting opened with a welcome from guild president, Ina J.  There were several members and no visitors in attendance.  Minutes for the September meeting were approved as written on the blog on motion by Tonya S. with a second by Judy S.  The treasury report was given by Karen C. and approved on motion by Judy S. and seconded by Terri H.


Old Business

MQA Fall Gathering - Final preparations were made for the MQA Fall Gathering set for October 14-15 and hosted by PTQ.  Patti M will send out a detailed email with final instructions for everyone.

Library Christmas Tree Ornaments - Several turned in ornaments that were made for PTQ's annual Library Christmas Tree.  If you still have a kit to make an ornament, please have it completed and return to Gwen S. by the November meeting in order for it to be included on the tree for this season.   

Nominating Committee - Committee members (Ina J., Judy S. and Rita W.) presented nominations for officers for 2023.  Proposed officers will be: President - Gwen S.; Vice-President - Brenda C.; Secretary - Rita W.; Treasurer - Karen C.  Patti M. seconded the motion made by the Committee and with a unanimous vote, these ladies were accepted as PTQ officers for 2023. Thank you for your willingness to serve!   

New Business

Trinity Place Fundraiser - A request was made by Ruby J. that PTQ donate a quilt to Trinity Place to be used in their silent auction fundraiser benefitting residents of Trinity Place.  The auction is scheduled for November 5, 2022.

Charity Quilts -  At our August meeting, Kimberly S. presented instructions on making a charity quilt with assorted 16-patch blocks.  Many turned in blocks made for this project.  If you have not made a block but still would like to, please see Kimberly S. for more details.

September 2022 Meeting

Possum Town Quilters met for their regular monthly meeting on Saturday, September 10, 2022. The meeting opened with a welcome from guild president, Ina J.  There were 8 members and one visitor in attendance.  Minutes for the June meeting were approved as written on the blog on motion by Ruby J. with a second by Tonya S.  There was no treasury report given as our treasurer was out of town for the meeting.


Old Business

MQA Fall Gathering - PTQ will be hosting the MQA Fall Gathering on October 14-15, 2022.  Pat H has donated a fall themed quilt for PTQ to raffle off at the Gathering.  Tickets for the raffle will be sold 1 - $1 or 6 - $5.  Tickets will be sold up to and throughout the Gathering and the winner will be drawn at the end of the Gathering.  It's not too late to pick up a ticket packet if you have not gotten one yet.  There are also more tickets available if you need extra.

Other updates for the Fall Gathering are:  Hotel blocks have been reserved; Catering by Zackary's and Little Porky's; Vendors secured are Magnolia Heirlooms and Main Street Fabrics; Each guild will be providing a door prize; The theme for Friday night is "Fall Festival."  

Desserts are needed for Friday night and we ask that all guild members provide a dessert that is easily portioned as they will be cut and wrapped into individual servings.  Ruby J. volunteered to be the lead on the desserts and will reach out to members for help.  Drop off time for the desserts will be determined by our next meeting.

Library Christmas Tree Ornaments - If you signed up for a Christmas ornament kit to make new ornaments for the annual Library Christmas Tree, please be completing those and return to Gwen S. by the November meeting.

Program

For our September program, Julia G. held a SAQA Trunk Show and shared many beautiful pieces of artwork from all over the nation.  As a group we chose our favorites and shared with one another about each piece we chose.  We were awed by the amazing talent presented to us.  Thank you, Julia, for sharing this with PTQ!

For our August program, Karen C. gave a demonstration of how to make quilted tote bags of various sizes.  She went through the steps of how to sew pieces onto the fusible foam stabilizer to form your back.  She included steps of how to make sturdy straps for your bag as well.

July 2022 Meeting

 Possum Town Quilters met for their regular monthly meeting on Saturday, July 9, 2022. New Business

PTQ Brochures - Brochures used for local businesses to promote PTQ, were updated with the new logo.  A motion was made by Molly C. and seconded by Gwen S. to have the new brochures printed at a cost of $34.50 for 100 rather than have a guild member print them at home.  A unanimous vote confirmed the order for printing the updated brochures.

Challenge Quilt - Pat H. & Carol J. are in the process of assembling the challenge quilt.  There were still a few blocks needing to be returned at the time of the meeting.
Charity Quilts -  no report; Maple Street Quilters donated 4 quilts to Bedz for Kids which were received by local children in need.

Program

It was Christmas in July for our program.  Gwen brought several ornament ideas and kits for PTQ members who wanted to help update ornaments for our annual Library Christmas Tree.  She also had sample blocks of Christmas Houses for our Friendship Quilt to be shared/swapped at our December meeting/social.  

Included in our Christmas in July meeting, was a Christmas fabric swap so everyone participating in the Friendship Quilt would have plenty of variety in their Christmas house blocks.
