PTQ Christmas Party, December 7, 2013

Possum Town Quilters Christmas Party

What a wonderful time we all had at our annual Christmas party at Elm Lake Golf Course!! If you missed being with us, you missed a fun time.  We had a wonderful potluck meal followed with a couple of cute games, "Left/Right", with a hand made gift and "Dirty Santa".

We finalized our 2013 UFO game with all who had signed up with their UFOs at the beginning of the year.  Each person paid $5 and a drawing was done at our party and CC won $90.00.  I bet she will be buying more material.

The meal for January will be provided by Terry, Michelle and Terri.

Our quilts donated by the guild members raised $1,328.53. Great job to those who participated.

For all members: Remember to pay Tonya at our January meeting for your 2014 dues of $15.00.

Merry Christmas to all our members of Possum Town Quilters!

November 9, 2013 PTQ Meeting Minutes

Terri called our meeting to order.  We had 2 visitors, Jolene and Michelle and 29 members present.

Happy Birthday to our November members- 21st-Shirley Grant and 26th-Sharon Hedrick.

Old Business:

Our treasurer report was given by Tonya and approved by membership.

Our 2013 Christmas party will be Saturday, December 7 at Elm Lake Golf Course, located at 1609 Taylor Thurston Road at 10:30 a.m. For those that are not sure where it is located, a group will be meeting at the Lowe's parking lot at 10:00 a.m.  Be sure and let someone know, so you do not get left behind.  Each person is asked to (1) bring a finger food for all to share, (2) bring a dirty Santa gift that is quilt or sewing related (under $15), and (3) bring a homemade gift to swap during a game. Be sure to label them to help get into correct area. If any questions, call Patty.

Those that want to help decorate the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library (314 N. Seventh Street) Christmas tree are to contact Brenda C; they want it decorated between Nov 25-Dec 5.  All the prior PTQ ornaments will be put on the tree.  Before next year, we plan to have a meeting to make some new ornaments to add, so be thinking of what you can make and donate.

We will be putting together an Education committee to find us a Nationally known quilting teacher for the next few years.  Some suggestions given were: Pam Bono, Ami Sims, Dorinda Evans, Flavin Glover, Lanore Crawford (Art quilts), Marti Michelle and Jenny Doan with Missouri Star Quilting.  Our committee will come up with a plan and share with us at a later time. In the meantime, go on the internet and look each up and know what they do.  You may learn some things from their sites.

Congrats Ebba for your quilt, "Six Feet Under" from our past Word Play quilts. Someone who worked at a funeral home got her quilt and was thrilled.

We will not be doing an Ultimate Guild challenge this year.  We will plan for March or April next year. We plan to have some classes before then to help others with art quilts and different stages of quilting.

Our Challenge block committee for next year was selected and voted on at this meeting.  The members are Brenda C; Ebba K; Lawana S and JoAnne S, the chairman.

An official vote was made and accepted for our 2013 PTQ officers.  They are: President, Patti M; Vice President, Carol; Secretary, Diane S; and Treasurer, Tonya.

New Business:

Holiday meetings - There will be NO Sit and Sew on November 23 or Dec 28 and no meeting on 14 Dec. The only meeting in Dec is our Christmas party on December 7 (info above).

The club needs to purchase a large 20-1/2 inch square ruler for our guild.

Mary Ann mentioned that those who turned in T-shirts to have printed will get them at Christmas party or in January.   Possum Town Quilters, own the emblem on shirts. There was discussion that we need to protect it by getting it trademarked.  We will ask our member, Lauren, to check into this for the guild and decide later.

The members to do the meal for January 11th meeting will be mentioned at our Christmas party.

Medallion Quilt - Each have been working on their own quilts and adding each month.  So far 3 steps have been given (1) Oct - have your quilt center; (2) Nov - put on a border; (3) Dec - triangles-no size specified (Judy demonstrated 2 ways to do this).  Judy mentioned using an "easy angle ruler" that Bonnie Hunter uses to help you do those.  Ruler was designed by Sharon Hultgren.

                                                                              Medallion Quilt Project

Each month a new step will be added, so get started so you will not get behind.
December - step 3 - add half square triangles all around.
November - step 2  - add border;
October - step 1 - Find or do your center

Enjoy our Show and Tell for November.

October 12, 2013 Meeting

President Terry called our October meeting to order.  We were thrilled to have three visitors today - they were Maureen, Emily and Gwen.  After our meeting Gwen joined our PTQ.  Welcome Gwen.  It is going to be a pleasure working with you.  We had 16 members present.

Our October birthdays are: Watana-6, CC-9, Carolyn-16, Ebba-17, Bobbi-25 and Annette-30.  Hope all you special ladies have a wonderful birthday.

Old Business:

Our treasurer report was given by Tonya. There was no discussion, so it was approved as read.

The drawing for our quilt was done in Corinth, MS at our MQA meeting.  Our winner was a friend of Judy S. from our guild. He was Mike Covey from Tuscaloosa.  He works for McDonald's. We made $1,009.00 from all the tickets sold and this will go into our Educational fund to be able to get another National teacher to come and teach us a new skill in quilting.  Be thinking about who you would like to have come.

Our next quilt to raffle will be our "Wedding Ring" quilt.  It is almost ready for us to start hand quilting.

We had Lauren and Brenda go over some details for our "Round Robin" quilt that we each will be doing on our own.  Those who had their "center" for their quilt got up and showed them.  See below in our pictures.  Our next assignment is to add a border of your choice and size. Each month at our first meeting we will be given our next step.

New Business:

Our nominating committee presented the suggested slate of new officers for 2014.  Each was presented and asked if there was someone you wanted to add before it went for a vote.  There were no changes to the slate given.  Our new PTQ officers for January 2014 are: President-Patti M.; Vice President-Carol J.; Secretary-Diane S.; and Treasurer-Tonya S.

Our Inventory committee updated us that we have three quilts ready for charity.

Patti mentioned we are planning for a "fractured quilt" class at Elm Lake Golf course once date can be determined.  Each will bring their 4 panels and work on your own project.  We will be able to help each other. So be getting your panels so you will be ready to start.

We also set our date for our Christmas Party at Elm Lake on Saturday,
Dec 7, so mark your calendars.  More details to come.

Thanks to Patti, Diane and Mary Ann for our great meal today.  Our meal for November 9 will be Brenda-dessert, Barb-main course, and Lauren-salad.

Enjoy our show and tell!!
