April Meeting Minutes

April 11, 2015

President Carol called the meeting to order.   She thanked Julia for hosting Flavin Glover while she was here teaching Possum Town Quilters the Patchwork Houses class and all the ladies that pitched in and did clean-up when the class was finished.

Treasurer's Report
     Judy gave the treasurer's report.  There was no discussion on the Treasurer's Report and it was approved as presented.

Old Business
  
     Susan Cleveland Class (Nov 14, 2015)--There are still 10 slots available, be sure to sign up if you want to
     take the class.  If no one from the guild signs up, we may open it up to others to attend.

     Linda D. asked about the Possum Town Guild Directory.  Carol and Lauren are working on it now.

New Business
    The RAC needs our area of the facility on May 9th ( our usual meeting time) so we will need to decide when/where to hold our meeting.  There was some discussion and Keri offered to host it on May 9th.  A vote was taken and all but one agreed to hold the meeting at Keri's.  It will be a pot luck with salads and desserts and all members are encouraged to bring a dish to share. 

Judy brought up an opportunity for guild members to enter quilts into the Greater Jackson, MS Quilt Celebration, Sept 11-13.  Entries are being taken now and the first 150 to sign up will have their quilts exhibited.  Entry fee is $10 and Judy has entry forms if you are interested.  Quilts entered must have been completed after Jan 1, 2012.

Julia reported our Raffle Quilt raised $1100 and the RAC management said it was a very beautiful quilt!  Thanks to all who worked on the quilt to make it such a success.

Carla updated us on our Charity Quilts.  The Relay for Life quilt ticket sales have started and Mott will update us on how much is raised from the raffle.  Carla will contact Mott for info on how to purchase tickets.  It was decided to take a few of our charity quilts to Artisan's Day to help raise funds.  Please think of possible recipients of our charity quilts.

Carla asked if it might be possible for the guild to make a quilt for a local organization's fund raising auction?  There was some discussion and Carla said she would follow up with the organization for more details.  

Show and Tell 

Julia's Family Circle-Farmer's Delight quilt was chosen for the cover the Klaudeen Hansen Quilt Art 2016 calendar.  Judy's My Orca Bay quilt was chosen for the first week of May in the calendar too.  Two quilts from one guild in the same calendar!  We have some very talented ladies here in Columbus, MS.  If you are going to Paducah, there will be a calendar signing on Wednesday in Paducah, hope to see you there!

March Meeting Minutes

March 14 2015

President Carol called the meeting to order and she welcomed our visitors, Eva and Sarah.  Sarah introduced herself as the owner of Figgs Fabrics here in Columbus and highlighted a few of her upcoming events at her shop.

Treasurer's Report
     Judy gave the treasurer's report.  Kerry moved to accept the report and Patti seconded with the
     motion being carried to accept the report as presented.

Old Business
     UFO Sheets--Just a quick reminder to turn those in as soon as possible.

     Flavin Glover Class--The class is full and please remember to wear your name tags for the class.  
     Please see Diane if you need one made.

     Susan Cleveland Class (Nov)--There are still 10 slots available, be sure to sign up if you want to
     take the class.

     Please sign the thank you card for the Columbus Dispatch for the wonderful article they wrote on
     the Possum Town Quilters and the Civil War Raffle Quilt donated to the Arts Center.

New Business
     Hosting an MQA Gathering--As MQA President-Elect 2016, Julia's guild would like to host
     a gathering here in the local area.  There was discussion on which gathering to host and
     Judy made a motion to host the Fall Gathering 2016, Kerry seconded and the motion was carried
     by all members.  A committee will be solicited to spearhead this event.

SAGA Trunk Show
     As the Southeast district representative for SAGA, Julia introduced a truck show representing
     small art quilts from around the world.  Each of us took two quilts to study and then were asked to
     introduce the quilt to the guild and then speak about what we found interesting about the quilts.  It
     was enlightening to see what others saw in those small quilts!

February Meeting Minutes

February 14 2015

President Carol called the meeting to order and welcomed our guests, Judy and Cheri.

Old Business
     Signature Friendship Blocks--Quick reminder for those who haven't finished theirs to try and
     finish them up so they can be distributed to those who participated.
 
     UFO Listing--Ladies, if you plan on participating in the UFO competition, please turn in your
     sheets and money.

     National Teachers Classes--Please take a minute and sign up for either the Flavin Glover (March
     28) or Susan Cleveland (Nov 14).  If you are taking the Flavin Glover class in March, payment is
     due at this meeting.

     Ultimate Guild Challenge--14 ladies turned in Magnolia quilts for entry consideration into the
     Grand Rapids AQS show later this year.  Judging will be at the Mississippi Quilt Association's
     (MQA) February gathering on 21 February.  Three judges from the Pine Belt Quilters will judge
     the quilts to select the top 8.  Those quilts will be the entry for the Ultimate Guild Challenge in
     Grand Rapids.  In addition, all of the quilters at the February gathering will vote for "Viewer's
     Choice" award from the Magnolia entries.  

Treasurer's Report 
     Judy gave the treasurer's report and it was noted that Carol brought new light bulbs for the
     overhead lights in our work area (Thanks Carol!).

New Business
     Artisan's Day--Our meeting for April 11th will start early so our quilters can participate in
     Artisan's Day in downtown Columbus.  Judy will check to see if there is a possibility for anyone
     to sell handmade items during the event.

     Hosting MQA Gathering--With Julia being the MQA President-Elect, one of the responsibilities of
     our guild will be to host a gathering here in Columbus.  Julia requested a committee be formed to
     discuss and develop a way ahead for the gathering to ensure we make it a success.

Committee Reports
     History--Michelle requested photos and news articles written about Possum Town Quilters be
     brought to her for inclusion in the History Scrapbook she is building.
     Inventory--Donna reported there are 5 finished quilts in the inventory.
     Member Photos--All those who have not had their photo taken, please see CC to be included in
     our member listing.

January 10, 2015

Possum Town Quilters Minutes for January 10, 2015 Meeting

President Carol called our meeting to order and welcomed all to a new year of quilting.  We had 24 members present and one guest, Karen.

Our January birthdays are :  Marjorie-1, Jo Anne-1, Keri-17.  Our February birthdays are Sue-2, Diane-4, Barb-6, Patti-11, Gwen-12, Sandi-26.

Old Business

     For those who have not completed their Friendship blocks,         please remember to complete them and bring them to the next meeting.

The 2015 Magnolia Ultimate Challenge quilts are due at our  February 14 meeting.  All required paperwork for the Ultimate Challenge needs to be completed and turned in at the same time.  We are looking forward to seeing all of the beautiful work!

Treasurer's Report

     Judy gave our treasury report.  There were no changes, so a motion was made to accept the treasury report and a second was made, all members agreed to accept the report as discussed.

New Business

     As we compile a photo listing of our members, just a quick reminder that CC will be taking photos today and at our next meeting to complete this listing.  It will be very helpful for our new members as they get to know everyone.

We have changed our WIP list back to a UFO list for 2015 and it was decided for every project completed (up to 6 for the year) your name will go into the hat to draw out the 2 winners. If you have bed size quilts to add to your list, please specify whether it is to complete just the top or complete the entire quilt.  If you want to participate, turn in your list at the February meeting, along with your $6.  At our December meeting, we will draw 2 names to see who gets to split the UFO pot. 

We have finalized the dates for our National teacher classes and the Flavin Glover (Log Cabin Patchwork Houses) is scheduled for March 28 with a class limit of 25 participants.  Our second class is the Susan Cleveland class (Happy Daisy) scheduled for November 14 with a class limit of 20 participants. Please have your $25 class fee at the February14 meeting.  You must be a current (paid membership) to sign up for these classes.  To ensure everyone gets an opportunity to attend at least one class, please rank your first and second choice for the classes.  Attendance will be limited to one class unless there is not enough signed up for each class.  

We have set our lunch time for 11:45.  You can bring a brown bag lunch or order from the Coffee House on 5th prior to the meeting and she will deliver at 11:45.  Please let her know you are with PTQ.  A new Thai restaurant has opened next to the RAC and will be open on Saturdays as well.

Lauren discussed the Annual Calendar for PTQ.  It was decided to try something a little different and offer some skills building demos throughout the year to help us develop ourselves as quilters.  Please see the PTQ website for more details.  Our February 28 Sit and Sew will have a Basics Workshop for those that want to learn a bit more about some basic quilt making techniques.

Mary Ann talked about the new Waverly fabrics coming in to Walmart.  These are good quality quilting fabrics at a very good price.  She invited everyone to come and check them out.

Committees

Pilgrimage-The dates for the Columbus Pilgrimage are April 6-18 with the Quilting at Artisans Alley on April 11 from 10-3.  This is the same day as our meeting and we will have a short business meeting at 9 and at 9:50 we will move to the parking lot beside the Tennessee Williams Welcome Center to participate in Artisans Alley by quilting amongst the other artisans.  Period dress is welcomed, but not required.  Please see Judy for more details.

November 8, 2014 Possum Town Quilters Meeting

President Patti called our meeting to order.  There were 21 members present and we welcomed two visitors, Dee W., and Janice B.

Our Christmas party will be Sat. Dec 6, 10:30-2:00, at Flint Hill United Methodist Church at 101 Old Honnoll Mill Road. All are reminded to bring their WIP projects for Carol to mark off.

Our next quilt to be donated to Habitat for Humanity will be presented Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2:00. Rita and Diane will represent PTQ to give quilt to the family. (see below)

Our log cabin raffle quilt for 2016 is in progress.

There will be a change in lunch for next year. All are asked to provide their own "sack lunch". On special occasions, a menu will be put together by members.  The Chief on a Shoestring money ($379.60) will be kept for use.  There was a motion and second for all these changes to start in January 2015.

Tonya gave the treasurer report.  It was approved as read. After this meeting, Tonya turned over all the Treasurer's information to our new treasurer, Judy, to start in Dec for the 2015 year. Thanks, Tonya, for your hard work and dedication. 

Reminder to those doing the magnolia wall hanging, it is due at January meeting.

Thanks Judy for our demo on doing hanging sleeves. This will come in handy for all.

After our meeting, we surprised Tonya with a baby shower for her soon son-to-be, Caleb.  He is to arrive January 6, 2015. Best of luck, Tonya.  (pictures below)
