April 5, 2025 Meeting

Meeting was called to order by Karen.

Minutes were accepted as posted by motion from Marilyn and second by Judy.

Treasurer report was read by Judy and accepted as read with motion by Shannon and second by Karen.

Library program from March 18th had a good turn out of PTQ members. Way to go PTQ!

Southern Sayings quilt top is complete, Watana is to quilt it for us upon her return.

Artisan Day will be next Saturday (12th) and Maple Street Quilters will be there with hand quilting a quilt, all are free to join them throughout the day or for the whole day.

Maple Street still does not have a location where they can leave their set up from each session, so if anyone has any recommendations of a place they can meet please contact Karen or Judy.

Kealy Shields from WCBI would like to do a sunrise interview for their program. She just found out about us this year from the quilts on display at the library. I contacted her and she would like for one to two quilters to come on the sunrise show at 8:30 and again at 9 to do a conversational type interview speaking about PTQ, what we do, projects we have worked on, and maybe different techniques we have used. If any can be available for this, it would be a great way to let people know we exist. If her times available don't conflict I may could be one, but would feel more comfortable if I had another to come with me. So reach out if you are willing.

Next year (2026) the library would like to have patriotic quilts for the 250th celebration year. If you have any and would like to share please let us know, if not maybe this could be the year we get one done.

We would like to do a QOV presentation(s) for next year as well, but need someone to head up this portion -- Judy nominated Ina.

Karen shared the PTQ QOV that the group worked on. We need to make a choice for the backing fabric for it and we decided it could be one that we present to a veteran next year.

If you haven't checked out Elayne Goodman's display at MUW be sure to go while you can. It is very extraordinary work and is in Summer Hall on MUW campus.

We are still in need of a National Teacher Procurer. Patti is to look into getting Joncie Smith possibly. Other options spoken of was Karen Arzamendi or Naomi Perry maybe coming to give a us a class.

May 10th we will have a demo by Marilyn Wilson on the Antelope Canyon quilt. She is bringing some examples for us to see. Then we have scheduled a sew day for it on May 31st, lunch will be provided that day.

Door prizes were drawn throughout the meeting and Beth, Karen, Shannon, and Lawana won.

Raffle quilt top is complete and Watana is lined up to quilt it for us.

For New Business:

Maple Street has to find a new location to meet and are in need of somewhere to store their fabric. Several are checking out possible venues, but they would appreciate any ideas for possible places to move to. If you have any suggestions please contact Judy, Shannon, or Brenda C.

Artisan Day will be April 12th. Maple Street will be there hand-quilting, so be sure to drop by or stay and try out hand-quilting with these experienced ladies.

2 door prizes were drawn today: CeCe won the first one and Brenda C. won the second one.

DEMO by Judy:
Judy demoed the class she will be teaching on March 29th. There are two book options for you to choose from if you wish to participate. You must have at least one to participate as you will choose your pattern from these.

If you are wanting a smaller version the Braided Bargello Quilts is the way to go. Both are Available on Amazon and here is the link to them if you need it:

Braided Bargello Quilts ($18.60 plus tax as of March 8, 2025): https://a.co/d/fRCpFMP

Bargello Quilts in Motion ($19.95 plus tax as of March 8, 2025): https://a.co/d/64IunVr

Judy recommended strongly that we read through the introduction of the book and all the information for the pattern you choose.

You will need a gradual gradient of colors in your fabric choices, the book will tell you how many sets, etc... here is an example of how the strip sets will go together.

You will cut 2.5" strips of fabric to make your strip sets (one of each set that your pattern requires) and have them made before class if possible.

You will need to make a fabric number chart for the fabric you choose and keep your seam allowance consistent throughout your sewing.

For the class, be sure to bring the following:
                Ziploc Bags (3-5)
                Seam Ripper
                Scissors
                Rotary cutter and cutting mat
                Sewing Machine
                Thread
                Strip Sets
                Bargello book
                Fabric # Chart
Printed color copy of your pattern from the book

February 1, 2025 Meeting

Minutes:

Meeting called to order. Pat Hickey made a motion to accept the minutes from January as posted on the blog and Ina seconded the motion.

Motion was made by Carol and seconded by Molly to approve the lunch budget be used on sewing days to provide members lunch.

We need someone to help head up the Quilt of Valor (QOV) project for the library on March 18th. Please contact us through PTQ email if you want to help with this program.

If you have quilts that are queen size or smaller, and would like to loan them to the library for display, they will need to be brought to the library by February 27th deadline, you may bring them directly to the library starting February 17th.

Nancy Losure is doing a demo for us in July. We had choices between Tumbling blocks or Chemo Cape/Shawl. The guild selected the Chemo Cape/Shawl and hope to use it as a charity project for the guild.

Barjello class will be lead by Judy in March with demo at the meeting day and a sew day on the 29th to create our own Barjellos. All details for this will be given with the demo at the March meeting. If needed we will hold an extra sew day on April 5th to finish our projects.

Door Prizes were drawn and the winners were Brend C., Tonya, and Cece.

November we will have a yard sale/swap day for our meeting day.

We discussed trying to schedule a National Teacher for the upcoming years. When we say national teacher we just mean a teacher who travels anywhere in the nation to teach. We ask those of you who are interested to email us your suggestions for who you would like to have come.

Show and Tell:

Pat Hickey - Mariner's Compass

Pat Hickey - Triangle Star

Gwen Sisson - Peacock Embroidery top

Tonya Stewart - Flintstone Block

Keep working on your bucket lists. Bucket list is a project that you have never started but always wanted to. It could be a kit that you have ordered in the past or would like to order and try. It could be a certain technique like paper piecing, applique, etc... We will provide slips of paper for you to put your name and whatever you would like to try to accomplish this year from your bucket list. Then we would like to seal them in an envelope to be opened at the Christmas party and see who tackled something they always wanted to. It does not have to be a completely finished quilted project.

Meeting was dismissed and we held our sew day. Pat was generous enough to run get lunch for us and bring it back.

We were able to finish the top for the Southern Sayings quilt and get the blocks done for the Quilt of Valor quilt.
