Possum Town Quilters, August 2014

August 9, 2014, Possum Town Quilters Minutes

President Patti called our meeting to order and welcomed all.  We had 19 members present with one guest, Linda W.

Our September birthdays are: Linda D and Gwin Edie- 18th.  Happy Birthday to all our quilters!  Hope you all had a wonderful day.

DATE CHANGE for September.  We will not be meeting on Sept 13, but will meet on Sept 20th at 9:30. This is due to building being used for a class, so we got moved.

There was no new business to discuss this month.

Old Business:

Judy gave us the status on our Habitat for Humanity.  Our next house will be ready in late September and we will need 3 quilts. It is always an honor for us to go to these dedications and present a quilt to the family.

On September 20, we will display our Civil War blocks and vote for Viewers Choice, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Thanks to all who participated.

We will also show our updates of our 2015 Ultimate Guild Challenge (Southern Magnolia theme).

A nomination committee will start the process for electing our 2015 officers, so be prepared to present your thoughts on this.

SAVE the DATES!  Julia and our Education committee have been working hard on setting up some quilting classes for our guild.  As of today, we have scheduled Favin Glover on March 28, 2015 and Susan Cleveland on November 14, 2015.  More information will be forth coming as time progresses.

Tonya gave our treasurer report and it was accepted as read and seconded.

Judy announced our last step in our Medallion quilt will be pin wheels.  If you have any questions, please contact her.

Our lunch for September 20 will be prepared by: CC, Carol and Brenda.

              Enjoy our Show and Tell!!

Possum Town Meeting, July 12, 2014

President Patti welcomed everyone.  We had 24 members at the meeting with 4 guests, Brenda E., Niomi P,. Nell O., and Cynthia.  Brenda and Niomi joined today. Welcome to our new members.

Our August birthdays are: Sue S-8; Brenda C-9; Rita W-10; Michelle M-12; Leada W-13; and Donna H-15.

New Business:
Our July 26 Sit and Sew meeting is cancelled due to Arts Council scheduling something on that date.

Old Business:
A get well card was passed around for all to sign for Linda G. Our thoughts and prayers are with her during this time.

We are about ready to start on our Civil War quilt when we get 2 more blocks turned in.  It will be a beautiful quilt and all members had a part in it,

Lawana is the "MQA Outstanding Quilter" nominee from our guild. She has two quilts hanging in the AG Museum in Jackson along with quilts from 9 other nominees.  These quilts will hang until October. Thanks to all of those who went to support her.  Lawana, we are so proud to have you represent our guild!

We will have a workshop at our regular meeting Saturday, August 9, to start working on our "Friendship blocks". All agreed and those doing this project are asked to bring their black and white materials, machine, etc. to accomplish this. We are asked to wait on putting names in the middle of block due to several dropped out and maybe some new people would want to join. Blocks are due at our December Christmas party when we will swap with each other.

Tonya gave our Treasurers report; it was approved and seconded.

The Ultimate Guild challenge committee reminded all to continue working on your "magnolia" project.

The Charity quilt committee reported we are real close to having 4 quilts finished.

On August 23, our Sit and Sew date, we will be working on charity quilts.  We will purchase pizzas for lunch for the group.

Thank you Keri, for taking pictures of all the quilts and projects done this last month.

We were honored to have Nell Oliver from Ackerman Scrappers, from Weir MS to give us a demo on hand applique.  She brought several of her beautiful quilts and projects to share with all. See below in Show and Tell.

Thanks to Barb, Carla and Terri H. for our delicious lunch.

Our August lunch will be furnished by Patti, Shirley, and Keri.

Enjoy our Show and Tell...
